Controlled production of eel(ric) larvae

In 2018, the Eel Reproduction Innovation Centre EELRIC has produced eel larvae of over 30 different female eels.

Important improvements were made of the protocols for assisted reproduction. Also the conditions and experimental set-ups to raise the larvae were improved. Eels can now be induced to spawn faster and at low stress. As a result, the reproductive success is higher and the larvae stay alive longer. Under the applied conditions, larvae survive for 16 days after hatching. The time has come to test our developed diets.
